Staggered Deadline Extension Decided
Government Responds to Pressure from Business Associations
Originally, the insurance requirement was set to begin on January 1, 2024. After numerous requests from the business sector, the Council of Ministers decided on a deadline extension last Friday. The implementation will now occur in stages depending on the company size:
- Micro and small companies: until January 1, 2026
- Medium-sized companies: until October 1, 2025
- Large companies: from April 1, 2025, with sanctions starting only from July 1, 2025
How Your Company Is Classified
The classification is based on the number of employees, annual turnover, and balance sheet total.
Company size | Employees | Annual Turnover | Balance Sheet Total |
---|---|---|---|
Micro/Small | < 50 | < 10 Mio. € | or < 10 Mio. € |
Medium | < 250 | < 50 Mio. € | or < 25 Mio. € |
Large | > 250 | > 50 Mio. € | or > 25 Mio. € |
Policyholders are encouraged to consult with their business advisors to determine the correct classification for their company.
